Today the Religious of the Assumption rejoice with the Church at the beatification of Pope Paul VI. Pope Paul VI beatified Mother Marie Eugenie, our Foundress, on February 9, 1975.
An excerpt from his homily on that blessed day:
"At the end of this talk, do you not think that Mother Marie Eugenie is our contemporary, as regards the problems with which she was confronted and the solutions that she tried to find? The saints do not grow old, because they are close friends of God!
Be full of joy, dear Sisters of the Assumption, and follow with youthful ardor in the steps of your Mother!...And we turn with special love to the large numbers of young people present in this assembly: you are in search of the meaning of your life, in search of a personal relationship with the God of Jesus Christ. Why not listen carefully to the Lord who is calling workers radically consecrated to the immense needs of evangelization
Will this ceremony have no effects beyond today? No! We will all return to our demanding tasks, taking with us a very humble and at the same time very ardent longing for holiness! We must dare to be holy!"
Pope Benedict XVI canonized Mother Marie Eugenie 32 years later on June 3, 2007.
