Sr. Francis Teresa del Marmol, R.A.went home to the Father on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at St. Mary Health Care Center in Worcester. She was in the 93rd year of her life and in the 63rd year of her vowed life as a Religious of the Assumption.
Born in New Orleans on February 8, 1924, Sr. Francis (baptized Hortensia Rita) was the only daughter of Alfonso and Clara del Marmol.
With a passion for healing, she was drawn to medicine, receiving her M.D. from Tulane University.
She entered the Assumption in 1953, making first vows in 1954 and perpetual vows in 1957. She was missioned to Africa soon after first vows, serving in dispensaries in both Rwanda and the Ivory Coast. In later years, she worked as a librarian and translator in the congregation’s Paris motherhouse. She joined the community of Worcester in 1998. Sr. Francis volunteered at Assumption College’s library and was a member of the Assumption Gregorian Schola. In her last years, she was a resident at St. Mary’s. The Sisters want to thank each member of the Third Floor staff for all their kindness to and care of Francis.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at the Chapel of the Holy Spirit at Assumption College, at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 8. Calling hour is from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. at the Chapel. Burial will be later, in Pennsylvania.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Religious of the Assumption would be appreciated.
